Hustler founder Larry Flynt has been invited to speak at the prestigious Oxford Union. Flynt says it was an honor to be invited to speak at such a respected institution. He is scheduled to appear on Feb. 25th. Women’s groups are of course outraged, and are pressuring Oxford to cancel Flynt’s appearance. Past speakers have included such figures as the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, and Winston Churchhill.
Oxford Union President Charlie Holt says regardless of what your stance is on pornography, Flynt should be a fascinating guest that people will want to hear from:
“He has led a fascinating life, and one that the Union believes will be of interest to its members,” Holt said. “Whatever your views on the questions of pornography, public decency laws and censorship, the talk should be an interesting one.”
As someone who’s met Flynt and heard him speak on two occasions, I can tell you first hand that he is indeed a very interesting speaker and an extremely intelligent person. I don’t necessarily agree with his politics, but the man has single handedly done more for 1st Amendment rights than any man in history.
His famous legal battles played out in the movie “The People Vs. Larry Flynt” are the main reason we get to enjoy porn in America today. I doubt this site would exist if not for Flynt.
